When I refer to a “stale” organization, I don’t mean that in a negative light.
Sometimes I become so accustomed to writing grants for fast-growing organizations or hot new programs that when an organization settles into its mission and provides the same impactful programs year after year, it can feel “stale.”
In reality, it is sustainable, effective, and impactful.
Funders think that expansion and new programs are sexy, and they like funding them.
If your organization isn’t doing anything “sexy,” is there a way to write compelling grants that get funded?
Of course, and here are a few ideas…

If you missed the Fund the Future grant summit, you can still benefit from the content by purchasing the recording.

Reframe the way you say “no change.”
Rather than say that “nothing new to see here,” emphasize that you’re seeking funding to continue a successful initiative that meets ongoing needs. Funders appreciate organizations that use grant funding to maintain consistency and proven outcomes.
Emphasize the ongoing need.
Even if your program isn’t expanding, demonstrate that the need is still there and that the organization is part of the greater solution.
Illustrate responsible financial management.
Many fast-growing organizations do so without a sustainable plan. If your organization experiences slow and steady growth, explain that long-term sustainability is more important than rapid growth. Show diversified funding to prove long-term viability and illustrate the impact of every awarded dollar.
Organizations don’t have to be in the news every week or grow leaps and bounds to receive grant funding.
Funders award to organizations that are vital to the community- even if they aren’t “sexy.”
Until next time,
