#362 Time for a strategic plan check in

At least twice a year, I check in with my clients specifically to ask them about their strategy.

What does the future look like? What is the organizational vision? What are the funding priorities?

I recently hit a roadblock with a client and realized that it was time for one of these check-ins.

We were reviewing an upcoming grant and discussing what we should write it for and how it should be structured.

The program is currently at capacity with no immediate plans for expansion.

There isn’t a need for equipment or upgrades. And there isn’t a new program being developed.

The funding is needed to maintain the status quo.

The existing program is tremendously impactful, vital to the community, and supports hundreds of people- but there is nothing new going on.

When I got off the call with the organization, I had direction. I understood that there is a five-year plan to move to a new facility and serve additional people.

I also learned that a new partnership is being negotiated, which will allow for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment to support the program.

Although we aren’t ready to write grants for these actual future expenses, it gives me something to talk about. I can ask for funding to support our existing program and build excitement for the future at the same time.

Until next time,
