A nonprofit publication reached out to me for an interview. One of the questions they asked me was, “What important tasks do you do during slow times?”
I thought the question was interesting because I create a yearly grant schedule for my clients that distributes grant deadlines pretty evenly. I have talked about “grant season” in the past, and you can read my thoughts about that here.
But, overall, with strong planning, there should not be crazed times and slow times.
The Grant Writing Boot Camp is now open for enrollment. Grab your spot before they sell out.
In the spirit of answering the question, when I have a few days without a deadline, there are a few housekeeping tasks I work on:
- Work with the appropriate departments to update all grant documents. (Solicitation cert, W9, annual report, 990/audit, etc)
- Update success stories.
- Update outcome data and ensure it is being collected correctly.
- Update program goals.
- Grant research.
Nothing is worse than scrambling to collect updated documents before a looming deadline. I avoid this by maximizing downtime.
Until next time,
