#87 I just finished this book…

I do my best to consume all things grant writing. Even with 20+ years of grant writing under my belt, there is always something new to learn.

If you belong to Alesha Mathis’ Facebook group, Grant Writers and Grant Writing, you know she loves teaching grant writing. She recently released her book, Launching a Successful Grant Program, which I immediately ordered from Amazon.

I wanted to finish reading the book so I can share my thoughts.

My first reaction was that, finally, someone was talking about “launching a grant program” and not just about how to write grants. I say over and over that I only work for clients on a monthly retainer because I want to grow my client’s grant budgets, not just write a couple of grants. Adding grant revenue to a nonprofit budget means adopting a strategy.

I loved how she talked about how being a grant writer and managing grants isn’t just about drafting a proposal. There are so many other skills involved. These supplemental skills are what separate a good grant writer from an epic grant writer.

Alesha is very systematic and has precise attention to detail. Those qualities come out in this book.

She closes the book with several supplemental materials designed to guide every part of the grant process.

I highly recommend this book to all grant writers. Even if you have years of experience, I guarantee that you will gain at least three pieces of insight. Buy it here on Amazon.

Until next time,
