Once a week, I dedicate a few hours to grant prospecting. I log in to my grant-finding tools and start filtering out grants. I try to add 3-5 new grant opportunities to each client’s grant calendar each month.
The obvious way to filter grants is based on the organization’s mission. But, there is another way to find the perfect grant opportunities.
Here is what I have been doing lately…

Do you need an elevated grant tool with a robust matching algorithm that allows you to find the perfect grants and then track them through the process? After endless scrolling through “free” grant search tools, I decided to work smarter, not harder.
I subscribed to Instrumentl.

One of my clients offers a unique service to veterans, at-risk children, and people with special needs. That certainly opens up numerous grant opportunities.
I started to think about how they could qualify for even more opportunities. What I came up with allowed us to win $75K more grants last year.
During my grant prospecting, I noticed that there are hundreds of grants specifically for children with intellectual and developmental differences. Since my client provides services to special needs populations, I asked the data manager to let me know how many children with IDD we served last year.
The number surprised me and opened up dozens of new opportunities. We served 100+ children with IDD the previous year, so I created a “new” program that qualified us for thousands in grant funding for that specific demographic.
We didn’t have to create the physical program, because we were already serving them. We simply needed to start counting those participants separately so that I could write and report on that specific demographic.
Think about who you serve and figure out a way to niche down further to qualify for more grants. If you need help brainstorming, send me an email.
Until next time,
