#618 Don’t wait until January to figure out your annual grant strategy

The new year is a popular time to make a fresh start.

For us grant professionals, though, waiting until January to plan can mean beginning the year already behind.

Funders don’t organize their deadlines around our post-holiday reset. Opportunities open early, require advance planning, or call for information you can’t pull together overnight, such as program details, current data, partner commitments, budgets, and leadership approval.

That’s why Q4 is such a valuable time to build a grant strategy and calendar for the upcoming year.

Before the year closes, we can:

  • Review funding priorities and the programs that need support.
  • Identify funders whose interests and eligibility requirements align with our organization.
  • Map known deadlines and plan for opportunities that need early preparation.
  • Flag gaps in data, budgets, partnerships, or internal capacity.
  • Give your team time to decide which opportunities are worth pursuing (and which aren’t).

A grant calendar is more than a list of due dates. Used well, it helps your organization see what’s coming, plan ahead, and spend time on opportunities that are genuinely relevant.

It won’t guarantee funding. No calendar can. But a thoughtful, vetted calendar can replace some of the guesswork with a clearer plan.

That’s why I create customized grant calendars for nonprofit organizations. Each one is meticulously researched and tailored to your organization’s mission, location, and eligibility, with funder details and deadlines for the timeframe you select.

For a limited time, I’m offering subscribers a discount on grant calendars ordered between now and November 1.
