On Friday, I wrote about my favorite tools and how they help me to be a successful grant writer. They can be pricey, though, and today, I want to let you in on three strategies I have used to convince organizations that the investment is worth it.
Here they are…

If you missed the deadline to enroll in Freelance Grant Writer Academy, join the waitlist. If you want to replace your full-time income while writing grants at home, you will love Holly’s content.
The next session opens in Fall 2024, but she still sends out great content when you join the waitlist.
Strategy #1: Demonstrate the tool
Invite your supervisor or Executive Director to see the tool in action. You can either schedule a live demo or sign up for a free trial and do the demo yourself. Some platforms, like GrantStation and Instrumentl, have demo videos that you can watch at any time.
Seeing is believing. Once they see how it works, they are more likely to approve the expense.
Strategy #2: Explain the ROI
Instrumentl conducted a study that determined that grant writers who use grant research and management tools save 12 hours each month that can be used to write and manage additional grants. The study also found that grant writers who used tools increased grant output by 78% after one year of use.
One of the biggest selling points is that most grant research and management platforms allow you to add users and collaborators.
Strategy #3: Continuing Education
The more respected, robust grant management tools also incorporate continuing education for grant writing. Both Instrumentl and GrantStation offer free courses, e-books, and webinars. They also publish templates for every aspect of the grant writing process.
In lieu of paying for your attendance at some fancy conference, ask them to pay for a tool that provides education opportunities year-round.
If you want to talk about which grant tool would be best for you, shoot me an email. I have used most of them and can provide some insight.
