#242 Leverage social media to win recurring grants

Before we jump into why social media is essential for winning recurring grants, let’s be clear about one thing. If you are a grants professional, social media is not your responsibility unless you are paid extra.

It is important to work with your organization’s marketing team to ensure that grant award requirements are being met and that the organization is positioned in the best possible way to snowball the current grant into years of recurring grant awards.

Here is how I do this…

When I work with a new client, I ask for a call with the social media person. Sometimes, it is an outside agency; other times, it is an intern or maybe even a designated employee or department. I make sure I have their contact information, and I let them know that when we win our first grant award, I will reach out to them so that we can review the marketing requirements of the grant contract.

Even when there aren’t requirements, it is helpful to publicize grant awards, show appreciation in public, and even tag the funder. I also work with the marketing team to post updates with photos and words of appreciation throughout the grant cycle.

Not only does the marketing show the existing funder that you are appreciative and that their funding is impactful, but it also helps to attract additional funders that may see it online. Existing funders award recurring grants and new funders get onboard. Win-win.

Until next time,
