#571 Does your grant calendar need room to breathe?

A full grant calendar can look productive.

But if every deadline is marked “high priority,” nothing is.

That’s how grant professionals end up with:

  • Multiple proposals due in the same week
  • No time for funder cultivation
  • Reporting deadlines competing with applications
  • No room for revisions or unexpected delays

A calendar should not only show when something is due.

It should show whether your team can realistically do the work.

Action steps:

✅ Limit overlapping applications
✅ Block time for research, drafting, review, and submission
✅ Add reporting deadlines alongside application deadlines
✅ Build in buffer time
✅ Mark opportunities as pursue, monitor, or decline

Your team does not need a busier calendar.

It needs a more honest one.

Because a strategic “no” can protect the quality of every “yes.”

But it cannot make an unsustainable budget sustainable by itself.
