As soon as I log in to my Netflix account, it displays my ‘In Progress’ shows and movies.
There are a lot.
I will watch for 10 or so minutes, but if it doesn’t grab me, I watch something else. There are so many options, so why watch something boring?
Our grant proposals are similar…

Competition for grants is intense, and funders have numerous options.
Reviewers skim the first page, and if it doesn’t capture their attention, your program may not receive the funding it deserves.
Just like a Netflix show, our grant proposals need a hook- a compelling reason to keep reading. This could be dropping a surprising statistic, a powerful testimonial, or a bold vision statement.
The first page isn’t about dumping a bunch of details- it is about making the reviewer want to dig deeper and connect with your program.
Before you submit your next grant, consider whether you would watch the next episode- or back out and select something else.
Until next time,
