Not every week in grant work feels good.
This was one of those weeks.
One client lost city funding overnight due to a legislative change in the tax code, and suddenly, the pressure on grants doubled.
Another client was just awarded a $500,000 grant…
and didn’t even have time to celebrate before jumping to:
“What’s next? There has to be more money out there.”
And another sent over their 2025 990 with a larger-than-expected deficit; the kind that shifts the entire funding conversation.
This is the part of grant work that doesn’t get talked about enough.
The pressure.
The uncertainty.
The constant need to find the next opportunity.
Even when things are going well.

Because grants don’t exist in a vacuum.
They’re tied to:
Policy changes
Financial realities
Organizational stress
Real people depending on outcomes
And some weeks, it all shows up at once.
But this is also why the work matters.
Not because it’s easy.
Not because it’s always rewarding in the moment.
But because it makes a difference in a world that is often unpredictable, under-resourced, and complex.
Here is what I focus on after a tough week:
✅ Acknowledge what’s working — even if it’s small
✅ Keep your strategy grounded, not reactive
✅ Focus on what’s actually within your control
Some weeks are about momentum.
Some weeks are about resilience.
Both are part of the work.
You’re doing great! Enjoy the weekend.
Until next time,
