#528 The myth of the “perfect grant proposal”

I was minding my business, aimlessly scrolling through my Facebook feed while waiting for my flight.

And I saw an ad, “Write the perfect grant proposal…”

I rolled my eyes.

There’s a quiet trap in grant writing:

Waiting until the proposal is “perfect.”

But perfection is rarely what wins funding.

Alignment does.

You can spend hours refining language…
when the real questions are:

Is this the right funder?
Is this the right timing?
Is this the right project?

Action steps:

✅ Prioritize fit over polish
✅ Submit strong, clear proposals — not endlessly edited ones
✅ Use feedback and outcomes to improve over time

Progress compounds.

Perfection delays.

Funders want to hear a REAL voice, not a perfectly polished pitch.

And in grant writing, authenticity beats perfection.
