Over the past couple of years, I have adjusted how I refer to myself and our profession.
We write grants, so we are technically grant writers. However, when we handle grant management (including research, strategy, consulting, and reporting), we are actually grant service professionals.
I signed a new client this week. The client shared that they interviewed and vetted two other grant writers and decided to hire me because, although my contract is more expensive, I offer full-service grant management. I focus on the long-term growth of their grant budget- not just writing grants.
For a nonprofit organization stretched thin, there is tremendous value in that.
Most grant writers offer SO much more than simply writing grants.
If you provide any of the following:
- Grant research and vetting
- Grant consulting
- Budget development
- Grant strategy
- Grant reporting
- Pre and post-grant calls and emails
Then you are a professional grant service provider.
Our value to the organizations we serve is tremendous.
Don’t sell yourself short. And take some time for yourself this weekend.
