#34 Do you love/hate grant research?

Most grant writers either LOVE or HATE grant research. I am on the LOVE team. Researching grants, finding diamonds in the rough, and using unconventional ways to identify funding opportunities are my favorite parts of grant writing.

But, what if you hate it? What if research isn’t easy for you?

If you LOVE grant research, keep reading. If you HATE it, skip down below the Grant Writing Tip of the Day and keep reading.

If you love grant research like I do, you can get paid to do it. I had no idea that this was a thing until recently.

An organization reached out to me to let me know that they had a grant writer who was winning grants, but she wasn’t great at finding the grants. They asked if I would be their grant researcher.

I said YES! The contract states that I identify 10+ grants each month that match their mission, programs, and other criteria. I send them a weekly list with the granter, website link, average amount granted, and any other helpful details I can find.

It is fun and easy money and I am looking for more contract clients like this.

If you are struggling to create a program budget, ask the finance team to help you with a few generic budgets and you can customize from there.

If you HATE grant research, you have a few options:

  • Hire a grant researcher to identify grant opportunities.
  • Use a few different tools. (I recommend GrantStation and Instrumentl. If you want an exclusive $139/year subscription to GrantStation, email me at hello@writeepicgrants.com)
  • Use the sniper technique.

If you have specific questions about grant research, feel free to email me. I am happy to help.

Until next time,
