One thing I have learned over my decades of grant writing is that there is a grant for every nonprofit.
A few months ago, I was hired to create a grant calendar for a thresherman organization. Before agreeing to offer this service, I had to do some preliminary work.
Are there even grants for antique tractors, their preservation, and education and outreach relating to them?
As it turns out- YES! There are dozens of grants for them.

There are grants for emergency animal rescue operations, preservation of old schoolhouses, organizations with budgets under $200K, and even ham radio hobbyists.
When I take on an obscure client or project, I set myself up for success in two ways:
- I look carefully at the organization- the demographics of those served, the region served, the activities- anything that can help me identify matching funders. I talk more about this here.
- I use professional grant research tools. Tools like Instrumentl and GrantStation allow me to work quickly, add filters, and curate accurate grant information with very little effort.
If the organization is a bit niche or obscure, you may not be able to identify dozens of grant opportunities each month, but you should be able to identify at least 1-2/ month.
Until next time,
