#162 Update your data frequently

I recently onboarded a new client who has won a handful of grants over the past few years. I was reviewing a few of the grants (both awarded and rejected) when I was surprised to see very outdated data.

Like, really outdated. From 1993.

There is really no excuse.

We must cite data to establish a strong community need in our grants.

Community census data is published every few years, and crime stats, health data, and veterans numbers are also updated every few years.

Research studies are published daily, and I have always been able to find a relevant one published within the past five years.

This is a reminder not to get complacent and keep using the same data. Make sure you update your demographic information and research citations so they are timely and relevant.

Until next time,
