Firstly, if you are in the path of Hurricane Milton, please stay safe. As someone who has lived in Florida for most of my life, I know this is one of the big ones and should not be taken lightly. All of my family still lives in Florida, and my thoughts are with everyone there.
Back to grant writing.
This simple metric is one of the first things I ask prospective clients…
It is shocking how many grant writers do not include this metric in every grant.
The simple metric is: Cost/Participant
For example, if I write a grant for a program that provides after-school activities for middle school-aged children, I need to know the cost per student. If the program is for after-school activities for the school year, it is essential to include the cost per student for the duration of the program in the grant.
Within the narrative, I would write something like, “We are requesting $20,000 to expand the XYZ Afterschool Program. Our cost per student for the year-long program is $525. This grant will help us to fund and additional 38 students.”
Knowing your cost/participant and being very clear about the impact of the funding dollars instills confidence and wins grants.
Until next time,
